Last year's 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks on our country was marked by a special vigil in South Sioux City.
What turned out to be quite the success, organizers couldn't think of a better way to remember the fallen than to continue the event at South Sioux's Avenue of Flags.
Pastor Jean Frenzel with the Dakota City-Homer United Methodist Church, says, "Since we're in election year, it's nice to remind everybody that some of us might be red, some of us might be blue, but we're all red white and blue."
Even members of local fire departments that showed up say they, too feel a special connection to old glory.
Robert Kratky with the Dakota City Fire Department, says, "The American flag is a very important symbol to all firefighters, especially the volunteers. A lot of us do it because we want to give back to our community and our community isn't just our town, city or county, it's the whole country."
And so with candles lit and bagpipes echoing under the stars and stripes, this community is coming together, eleven years later.
