Trucks Crashes with Train in Dakota City

At approximately 1:13 p.m. Dakota County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to an accident at the Pine Street railroad crossing in Dakota City, Nebraska. The accident involved a dump truck and a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train. The dump truck had been traveling eastbound on Pine Street and was struck by an oncoming train at the rail road crossing. The dump truck was drug a very short distance and sustained major damage to the rear passenger side cargo area.

 The driver of the dump truck has been identified as Xavier Hernandez. Mr. Hernandez sustained head injuries and was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Mr. Hernandez is currently listed in fair condition. The accident is under investigation at this time.
