New Jersey Governor Chris Christi was in Sioux City throwing his support behind Steve King Thursday.
Folks came pouring in at Bev's On The River to attend Congressman Steve King's 5th annual Defenders of Freedom Fundraiser and although king was not able to attend because of a vote in Washington, the folks were still anticipating Chris Christie.
Christie talked about how Congress needs a leader who stands up for his beliefs, and for the people he represents.
"I'm here to support Steve King today because he is one of those leaders, not because I agree with every word that comes out of Steve's mouth, nor does he agree with every word that comes out of mine, that should be the litmus test. I tell people in New Jersey all the time, you know who to pick for the perfect candidate to vote for? look in the mirror," said Christie.
So why did the governor come all the way to Sioux City to support a congressional candidate?
"He said, "I remember what you said to me in Congress, you said if you ever became something you'd be happy to help me," and he said, "I made a pretty good investment didn't I?" he said.
and even though King couldn't be there, supporters say he would be happy with the appearance by the governor.
"I would think Steve would be awfully appreciative of a guy with that kind of stature coming out here to support him," said Jeff Poss, a Sioux City.
Christie also addressed the economy and the upcoming Presidential Election saying that he believes undecided voters need to stop going along with the polls and to change them.
