It's big news in the fight against breast cancer. A new study, published in the Journal Nature, is the largest of its kind ever conducted.

It looks at breast cancer on the genetic level. Mapping the origins of the disease by analyzing tumors from hundreds of patients.

The study confirmed earlier findings that breast cancers fall into four distinct categories, and sometimes act like other cancers. Some experts are calling it a major step forward.

"It's going to give us a lot of information that we're going to use to understand cancer better and design better cancer treatments," says Dr. Larry Norton from Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital.

And while all this is good news, Dr. Norton cautions, they don't know everything just yet.

For now, breast cancer patients will have to wait for clinical trials, and possibly dozens of drug studies before new drugs become available.
