On Monday, KCAU-TV joined several other stations in rejecting a political ad from the Humane Society Legislative Fund.

KCAU-TV reviews all third party ads before they air. We chose not to run the ad after determining claims in it could not be substantiated.  Since then, we have been in talks with the humane society legislative fund.

KCAU-TV General Manager Mary Ann Johnson says, "We have had ongoing discussions with the Humane Society Legislative Fund over the past 72 hours since rejecting their ad. They have satisfactorily addressed our concerns we expressed with the original ad."

The revised ad will begin airing on KCAU-TV on Friday September 28th.

Channel 9 KCAU-TV is among four TV stations in Iowa refusing to air an ad critical of Representative Steve King.

The ad is from the Humane Society Legislative Fund. The spot says Steve King is the only Iowa member of congress to oppose a ban on taking children to dogfights. It also uses graphic photos depicting animals which have been treated badly.

KCCI-TV and WHO-TV in Des Moines both say they're refusing to air the ad because of the graphic pictures.

Channel 9 KCAU-TV's parent company Citadel Communications says it will not air the ad in Sioux City or on our sister station WOI-TV in Des Moines because the ad is false. President of Citadel Communications Ray Cole said, "we have opted not to run the spot in both Des Moines and Sioux City more so, if not exclusively, based on the fact that we believe the message is patently false."

A review of the congressional record made it clear that King opposed all forms of dog fighting. However, King thought it was a state matter rather than federal issue.
