The sounds of Siouxland's best marching bands filled the air in the Morningside Area on Saturday.
Eleven high school gathered at Elwood Olsen Stadium of Morningside College to go head to head in the "Starfest" Marching band Competition hosted by the North Sioux City High School.
Bands from Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa battled it out on the marching band field for First, Second, and Third place in classes 1A, 3A, and 4A.
Some local high school like Woodbury Central, Le Mars Community, and MOC-Floyd Valley made an appearance, hoping to not only snag First place, but to catch up on how other schools are doing as marching band season is underway.
"It's fun to see other people's bands and the shows that they perform because everyone has something different," said Senior, Trevor McMahan of the MOC-Floyd Valley Marching Band. "It's fun to be in community with a bunch of people who care about the same thing you do."
One main feature this year was the drum line competition.
Drum lines brought out their best cadences to get the audience going, an audience that was nothing but true supporters of the event.
"There is nothing better than a pro-band audience," said Lincoln North-Star Marching Band Director, Rob Salistean. "This is completely a marching band event. Anybody who likes marching band is here; you know you're in the right place."
The bands went through a preliminary round and then into a final round where "Best Overall" awards were given out.
