Greek yogurt has really taken off in the yogurt industry, and now many yogurt brands not only carry regular yogurts, they also carry a "Greek" yogurt.
You may be wondering what is the difference between the two types of yogurt.
Korie Lown, registered dietician at HyVee says, "Greek yogurt actually has a straining process that removes some of the sugar from the yogurt. So Greek yogurt does have a higher protein content than regular yogurt, and it is lower in sugar."
Even though the Greek version of many brands of yogurts seems to be slightly more expensive than regular yogurt it doesn't seem to be turning customers away.
Lown says, "It's kind of been the craze to add that extra protein into your diet and then it also helps fill you up so a lot of people are just trying to get it in so they can have more food and still eat healthy."
If you want to keep your sugar intake low, Lown suggests adding healthy sweetener alternatives to plain Greek yogurt, such as pumpkin puree, honey, or cinnamon.
