Roughly 50 cats have been taken out of a home on the 18 hundred block of Grandview Blvd. in Sioux City. Some of them were deceased.

Officials with Sioux City Animal Adoption and Rescue went into the house with hazmat suits to rescue the animals which were said to be living in deplorable conditions.

Cindy Rarrat, the Operator of SC Animal Adoption and Rescue, says, "The conditions were unbelievable, that's all I can tell you, that they were absolutely unbearable, and it was unfit for humans or animals, which is why housing authorities were here and red-tagged the premises."

While not all the cats made it out alive, Rarrat says she truly believes it was the diligent work of her team that spared many of these cats their lives.

"I have to give my team a lot of credit, because they went in there, it was hot, it was not the greatest conditions and they worked their rears off, so a lot of credit goes to them."

Neighbors say no one has lived in the home for a couple of months. The cats have been taken in to be fed, watered, cleaned and treated.

Animal Adoption and Rescue representatives say they do believe they obtained all the cats in the home, but they may return Tuesday during daylight hours to double check.
