Some kids in South Sioux City were able to count on a good hearty meal Monday night thanks to a local church.

Saint Paul United Methodist Church is opening its doors to hungry kids on Mondays. It's teaming up with the Food Bank of the Heartland to hold a free "Kids Café."

About three quarters of the students in South Sioux City qualify for free or reduced lunches at school, so organizers knew there was a need.

"The number is astronomical and it just made me weep," said Nan Stettnichs, the Kids Cafe Director.

The free Kids Café is open every Monday night from 5-6:30pm to kids ages 2-19. Parents can also eat as long as they give a donation.
