A Sioux City man has been arrested after more than 50 cats were removed from a home on the near Northside.

56-year-old Mark Lanning has been charged with 14 counts of animal neglect.

Police say Lanning left over 50 cats in his former residence since January and failed to provide adequate care for the animals.

On Monday, dozens of cats were found alone in the home. Authorities say 9 were found dead and 5 had to be euthanized due to their medical condition.

Neighbors say no one has lived in the home for months.

At this point, 54 cats have been removed from the home, but there are some still there.

Traps have been set to catch the remaining pets.
