Early voting began in Iowa last week and so far it seems to be catching on. Woodbury county has already mailed out more than ten thousand ballots. Iowa is the only state that pays for the postage of mailing ballots out as well as the return postage cost. Woodbury county officials say that voters are finding some advantages to filling out the ballots at home. Pat Gill, the Woodbury Commissioner of Elections, says, "I've spoken to a lot of voters who really like the experience of being able to get that ballot at home, sit down at their kitchen table, maybe talk it over with their spouse. But they like to look through the ballot and get a good understanding of what's on there."

So far, Democrats hold the advantage when it comes to the number of ballots sent out, but Gill says Republicans generally choose to vote on Election Day itself. Remember, if you're filling out an early or absentee ballot, they must be postmarked by the day before the election which is November 5th.
