Starting next month, tobacco use will be banned at many parks in Lincoln, Nebraska. Including several ball fields, and at least one-golf course.

The ban will go into effect Nov. 1 after the city approved the move earlier this year.

In April, the city surveyed residents on a proposal to ban smoking in places operated by Lincoln Parks and Recreation, including playgrounds, trails, dog parks and ball fields.

The city currently has no restrictions on smoking in outdoor public areas.

The new ban on smoking and chewing tobacco in parks expands Lincoln's already strict public smoking ban.

In 2005, Lincoln residents voted to ban smoking in indoor workplaces and public places, including restaurants and bars. The smoking ban went statewide in 2009.
