CenturyLink, a high–speed internet, TV and phone provider and the union representing 13,000 workers in 13 states, have failed to reach a contract agreement, but have signed on to a day–to–day extension.

This involves workers right here in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, along with Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, North Dakota, New Mexico, Utah, Washington, Oregon and Wyoming.

The Communications Workers of America made the announcement after the existing labor contract expired at 11:59 Saturday night.

Negotiations are expected to continue, and workers will remain on the job during the extension. The union had authorized a strike in the event that a new deal couldn't be reached with the Louisiana-based telecommunications company.
