Sioux City's "Fire Prevention Week" started Sunday.

This weekend all fire stations were hosting an open house.

Some of them, even gave a few demonstrations to showcase fire safety and prevention.

At Fire Station #4, crews conducted live burn cells to show folks just how fast fires burn, and how effective fire sprinklers and smoke alarms can be.

"The smoke alarm went off within ten seconds of us starting that fire. That gives people plenty of time to do the plan that they've practiced and get out," said Jesse Pedersen, Sioux City Fire Rescue Public Information Officer.

Fire crews will be speaking at several elementary schools in Sioux City this week to spread the word on fire prevention.
