When it comes to the world of event arena's, The Tyson Events Center has a lot of competition.
A short drive south and you are in Omaha, and about an hour north you are in Sioux Falls, where they are now building a brand new arena.
So to stay competitive the city of Sioux City is looking at taking some aggressive steps to improve The Tyson Events Center.
"We're always watching what's going on in the market place, we think we have a great market here in Sioux City and we're real excited to continue to grow that market," says Sioux City's Executive Director of Evens and Facilities, Aran Rush.
Recently, city staff released a strategic plan between now and 2015. One of the top items on that plan is an expansion of The Tyson Events Center.
So why do an expansion?
Rush says it is needed to keep the big names coming to Sioux City.
"Artists are demanding more and more everyday, so keeping up with that demand, even we are use to getting we have to make sure we are on the cutting edge and we're able to handle what they want," he says.
Rush also says an expansion will help bring and keep an energy in Sioux City.
"Whenever there's a big show in town there's a level of energy that's really a lot of fun. I think it brings a whole another level to the city and I'd like to see more of it."
Now, nothing is set in stone, it is just a proposal, and nothing yet has been submitted to the City Council for approval.
