A Siouxland man is dead, another injured after an accident at the Nucor Steel plant near Norfolk. It happened about 4:15 Tuesday afternoon. Stanton County Sheriffs say Perry Hoemann, 58, of Hoskins, Nebraska was killed when he was struck by a large piece of steel. He was a contractor helping at Nucor Steel.
Hoemann, and 49-year-old Harold Claussen Junior of Norfolk, were cutting a counter weight made of steel when the weight broke loose, and struck both men and the pay loader they were standing in.
Hoemann was pronounced dead at the scene. Claussen was taken to Faith Regional Health Services. There's no word on Claussen's condition.
