The University of South Dakota Athletic Department is one step closer to a huge facelift.
On Wednesday, the school proposed to the South Dakota Board of Regents a $58 million expansion project and it was approved.
The project is split up into 2 parts:
A 6,000 seat indoor basketball arena and a new Sanford Health research lab.
The two will be connected to the Dakota Dome.
The second part of the project is an $8 million outdoor track and field facility.
USD Athletic Director David Sayler said, "The track, frankly we've got 3 kids who qualified for Olympic qualifying this year and we don't even have a track. So that's a situation where I think the donors are there and the interest is there and I want to provide that for our student athletes."
The track will be located across from the new Wellness Center.
The plan is to have the entire project funded by outside donations.
The next step is to present to the legislature in January.
