At about 11:45 p.m. last night, the Norfolk Fire Division received a call about a fire at the local Budget Inn located at 721 E. Norfolk Ave. Fortunately,, no one was injured.
The fire started in the first floor of the laundry and mechanical room. The fire breached the interior of the room and the second floor balcony.
Firefighters were able to take down the fire within 15 minutes of arrival. Everyone had evacuated safely and two were checked for smoke inhalation. None were reported to the hospital.
The cause of the fire is still being under investigation.
