Former U.S. Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania has died at the age of 82.
Specter is most recently known for changing political parties from Republican to Democrat in 2009 and playing a key role in many Supreme Court nominations.
Specter served 30 years in the Senate, more than any other in Pennsylvania history.
His son says the late Senator died Sunday morning at his home in Philadelphia from complications of Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
