A small Siouxland town was at the center of a police standoff that lasted for nearly 8 hours.  Hawarden police got the emergency call just after 7:00 Saturday night.  The caller says they were assaulted by Paul Long, 31, and he was inside a home with multiple weapons.

Police and Sheriffs deputies responded to the call.  When they got to the home, they say Long threatened officers and refused to come outside.

The standoff came to an end around 3:00am, about seven and a half hours after it began.   Authorities gained entry into the house and found Long hiding in the attic.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault with a weapon and child endangerment.
