City leaders and Penn National representatives spoke Wednesday about the future of the Argosy Casino's dock lease.
Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott said the phone call lasted only about 20 minutes, but progress was definitely made.
For months the City of Sioux City and Penn National Gaming have been in a bit of a dispute over the Argosy Casino's dock lease, which is set to expire in January. With it, hundreds of jobs are on the line.
But Wednesday, the leaders of both groups got on the phone and took the next step.
Penn National Gaming requested a proposal from the city, which it will review over the next 24 hours.
"They just asked us what our proposal would be, they asked us to reduce it to writing, they asked if they could review it for 24 hours and then set up another phone conference. It went rather quickly and it went well," said Mayor Scott.
When asked if a 2 year lease agreement was put on the table, the Mayor did not confirm or deny, but he did say it was not the best option considering a new casino may be moving in to Woodbury County before that lease agreement would expire.
After Wednesday's phone conference, the Mayor says he's optimistic an agreement will be reached in the very near future.
