Sioux City, IA - The Iowa Hawkeye men's basketball team could be coming to play in Sioux City sometime next season. Iowa Athletic Director Gary Barta confirmed the idea to the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
Barta said nothing is "imminent" but with three current starters hailing from the Sioux City area, the situation has piqued athletics officials' interest.
"We haven't for sure decided on an opponent," Barta said. "First we're trying to see if the venue is interested and if we get to that point, then we would have to figure out who the opponent would be.
Tyson Events Center, executive director Aron Rush tells Channel 9 that he is working on a proposal that would bring Iowa to the Tyson for an exhibition game next season. Rush could not confirm who the Hawks would play, but it seems fitting that a local NAIA team would be in the mix.
