Nathan Ables of South Sioux City, and Tyler Nixon of Oakland, Nebraska, are line technicians for the Nebraska Public Power District.

When power lines go down and the lights go out they are the ones who fix it. But this month, their help was needed away from home to help restore power to victims of Hurricane Sandy.

"We've done in-state but never out of state...it gave us a chance to help other people out that needed the help," said Ables.

The pair worked day and night for two-weeks putting together old power lines and rebuilding new ones from West Virginia to New Jersey, and the things they say were unforgettable.

"When we were in West Virginia my first thought was...I ain't climbing that hill but just to see some of the spots where we were, just unbelievable the damage that the wind caused," said Nixon.

And when lights did go on...

"We'd turn the light on and you'd hear people screaming and hollering we have power, we hear a lot of thank you's, it's kind of enjoyable."

Ables and Nixon were two of 16 N-P-P-D line technicians who just returned from work from the East Coast.
