The Sioux City Police Department is planning to acquire a new piece of equipment that could help clear traffic accidents more quickly. It's called a 3D Accident Reconstruction Scanner.
The device is attached to a tripod and takes photographs while also measuring distances. Police officers say that major accidents on the interstate can take four hours or longer to evaluate and this new technology would dramatically reduce those times allowing traffic to flow faster.
It can also be used in other crime scenes and situations to get a complete scan of the surroundings.
