We may be heading into winter, but the City of Sioux City is already focusing on next spring's activities. Friday, the city unveiled its plan to designate new on–street bike routes around Sioux City. Beginning in the spring, the city will mark out over eighty miles of roadway with nearly three hundred signs to designate the routes. This is the first phase in making Sioux City more bicycle–friendly.

Jill Wandersheid, the Sioux City Transportation Planner, says "These bike routes were identified using factors such as connectivity to our current trails, speed limit, terrain, and roadway width in addition to other amenities around our community."

Specific bike lanes are also a part of the discussion with both Lincoln Way and Morningside Avenue being considered. The city will also factor in biking paths to future road construction.

Plans will be discussed further at Monday's City Council session.
