The day is finally here.
For Bart and Roberta Miller of Sioux City, it has been two years in the waiting for their little boy Shawn.
But now, their wait is finally over.
"If you would have asked me three years ago, if this would have happened, I would have said no," said Roberta. "We just went with it and things happened. Things turned out great; you can't say no to that sweet little face."
On Saturday, Sioux City celebrated its "Fourth Annual Adoption Saturday" in honor of "National Adoption Day".
The day was for families to finalize their children's adoptions with courts, judges, and adoption professionals.
This year, 11 children were given a new home with families here in Siouxland.
"These children will have families, forever families. Families that will be there for them to nurture, guide through life, and most of all to love them," said Woodbury County District Court Judge, Mary Jane Sokolovske.
To help celebrate, Sioux City held an adoption day ceremony at the Woodbury County courthouse.
Children, who have been adopted in the past, shared their musical talents and sang in honor of the day.
During and after the ceremony, families took turns walking upstairs to finalize paperwork.
The National Adoption Day Coalition expects 4,500 children in foster care to be adopted and find new homes on Saturday.
