Christmas may be next month but folks here in Siouxland are making sure they beat the holiday rush and do their shopping now.

Folks got out this weekend to do early Christmas shopping in hopes to avoid "Black Friday".

"I like to get most of mine done early just because of standing in line and the crowds. We go on ‘Black Friday' to get a few things, but we get most of it done ahead of time," said Sandy Rolfes of Le Mars, Iowa.

Some shoppers said they pick up a few Christmas gifts in stores but do a lot of their other shopping online, saying it allows them to take their time in thinking about what they should really buy.

"I think sometimes you get too tired after a while and then you just start grabbing things just for the sake of getting it done," said Miki Getchell, Sioux City.

In stores on Saturday, the toys and electronics sections looked the busiest.

Some parents picked up toys that are for kids but have a little technology twist.

"We're actually thinking about getting my son the 'Leapster Pad', the ‘LeapFrog kind of Ipad," said Jessica Hulst of Orange City, Iowa.

Early shoppers said that as the road winds down to Christmas, they are happy they will be able to avoid most of the holiday rush.
