Whether you are traveling to see family or getting in the car to head to your favorite mall, holiday driving has the tendency to get your mind off the matter at hand.
"I'm kind of excited to just go do something and well, here we are. I was speeding, and I'm just going to Wal-Mart!" said Gwenn Jackson of Orange City after getting pulled over for speeding.
Jackson said she was rushing to get some holiday shopping done.
Sioux County Officer Charlie Zomermaand said speeding is the number one reason he gives out tickets during the holiday season.
He also said stop sign violations are a close second, and that it is a dangerous mistake you do not want to make.
"Say you just roll through a stop sign and you think no one is coming. In that split second that you don't pay attention to that on-coming traffic that could turn into a serious-injury accident pretty fast," said Officer Zomermaand.
Zomermaand said there will be many more officers out come this Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving.
He said Sioux County is going to double the number of officers it has on the roads.
If you want to avoid a ticket, Zomermaand said follow this advice:
"Slow down; take your time. If you're tired, try taking a nap before you get on the road. If you have anything to drink, stay home a little while."
Zomermaand added that in Sioux County just for going 5 miles over the speed limit, a ticket will set you back $92.00.
So it is best to just to slow down.
