Monday night was the official kick off to the holiday season in Sioux City.
Historic 4th Street was invaded by families, lights and yes, even Saint Nicholas for the Holiday Lighted Parade downtown.
After the parade, Santa himself lit the Christmas tree that will sit outside the Sioux City Public Museum for the rest of the season.
But as many of you noticed, it wasn't a familiar kick off to the holidays, at least on the thermometer.
The calendar may read mid-November, but these some Iowans aren't used to being so comfortable at the annual Holiday Lighted Parade.
They're more familiar with:
"Chilly, cold. You see your breathe, you can't even see my breathe right now!" said Dorothy Breum of Sioux City.
Scott Hansen agreed, "It doesn't really feel like the holidays. I got all dressed up, got a hat and gloves and I didn't even need them. And one guy has shorts on over there."
That guy would be Sioux City's Jeff Hickey.
"I am in shorts, probably the only person down here in shorts. ("Why are you in shorts?") Because I love the weather and its not too cold to be wearing shorts," said Jeff Hickey.
The mercury rose to about 47 degrees at parade time. The good news, Santa didn't seem to overheat.
He's still deciding if you've been naughty or nice, but by the look of this night, Mother Nature's been very good this year.
So while the temperatures may not feel like the holidays, the spirits definitely do.
