Monday night, The Storm Lake High School Board released a draft of what its new school improvements could look like.
Principal Beau Ruleaux said the improvements would be done in five steps.
First it will focus on modernizing the entire old school then make four building additions to the school; a multi-complex gym, auditorium and two new wings of classrooms.
The school is 50 years old, and Ruleaux said a change needs to be done.
They need to update their school and make room for up-coming students.
"If you look at the elementary building right now, they have over 800 hundred students. In a few years, those students are going to be in the high school and right now we're not big enough to house 800 students," said Ruleaux.
The school has hired architectural company "DLR Group" out of Des Moines to help design the improvements.
Ruleaux said he, the school board, and DLR will be meeting in the next few weeks to review ideas for the new classrooms.
On December 4th, the school will hold an open voting to the public.
They will vote on how they should fund the $17.5 million dollar project.
