While some were up bright and early to catch those Black Friday bargains, others were quick to hit the gym and work off the holiday pounds. The Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA in South Sioux City, NE was filling up shortly after sunrise Friday morning. Over the course of a holiday season, the average American gains between 5 and 7 pounds and takes in more than 4,000 calories on Thanksgiving Day alone.

One man who frequently hits the gym, Mike Monlux of South Sioux City, says the sweets were his weakness this year. "I'm here today because my daughter brought over banana cream pie and I ate half the pie myself. I think that good health is something that doesn't take a day off, I think you have to work at it every day."

And if you feel like you're piling on the pounds from your holiday feasts, it's not too late to sign up for the YMCA's "Holiday Trimmings" wellness program.
