When you're one person, buying one ticket, you've got one shot to win. But pool a bunch of tickets together, and you could be on your way to a lavish vacation and a new car.
Every week employees at Motor Parts Central in Sioux City pool money for the lottery.
In the past, they've won a whopping $40. But for the big, $550 million Powerball prize. All 30 employees got involved.
Becky Kempers, of Motor Parts Central said, "Since it's so big, everybody would get a big sum of it. So I think everyone's thinking about what would happen if they won it."
With 60 tickets, these folks are hoping the auto parts store turns into a gold mine.
But Briar Cliff University Food Service is hoping otherwise.
Tim Goldammer, of Briar Cliff University Food Service said, "I think any amount of money, especially this much money, could change a lot of people's lives, especially within the group of 20 that we're playing with here."
They've got a pool going, too. It may be only 20 tickets, but they say they've got a system in place for when they win, not if.
Briar Cliff University Food Service's Michael Gasaway said, "You couldn't quit for a month. You could only have one ticket, there were no double entries. You create all these weird little societal rules, it's fun!"
So, with societal rules in place, those folks says if they win, they won't turn their backs on the students of Briar Cliff University. In fact, they'd give back.
Goldammer said, "I'd probably, at some point, look at buying a football field for Briar Cliff, I think they could use that. I always thought it'd be fun to have a Goldammer Stadium. Right? Always go to it, like, 'my grandpa built this stadium.' Take the grandkids, that kind of thing."
A guy can dream, can't he?
