It's not just farmers being impacted by little snow, but actual snow-makers in South Dakota.

They've had their work cut out for them, as the winter ski season has officially started in the state's northern Black Hills.

Many ski areas have struggled this year with such little natural snow and warm temperatures, that any snow for skiing has been rather hard to come by. Even when it comes to making it.

Thankfully, South Dakota snow-makers got a few opportunities in the past week to get snow on some of the slopes - just enough to open up parts of mountains to skiers.

Terry Peak Ski Area, for example, will only be open on weekends, until it's cold enough to get snow on the rest of the mountain, there.
