You'd think folks would be flying to the car washes, with all the great weather we've been having in December. But we found out, it's actually quite the opposite.
Speedy's Car Wash in Sioux City says warm weather in December really isn't good for business. What they need is snow.
"It's a catch 22. We don't want three feet of snow by any means, maybe half an inch of snow every week, to get the cars dirty and away we go," said Scott McCormick, owner of Speedy's Car Wash.
McCormick says without snow, there's not salt on the roads. And that salt is the reason why so many people get their cars washed in the winter, to rinse it all off.
McCormick says this time of year, there are usually cars lining up around the block, waiting to get washed. But that's not the case this December.
"I thought there'd be a line, there's always a line. But there's no line today so you can just get right in," says Dale Walsh, Sioux City.
And while it may be a welcome sign for customers, if this dry weather sticks around, it could hurt business.
"If there's not enough rain, cars don't get dirty, and as a result they don't come in as often. So we are kind of like farmers, we need the precipitation and we're happy too," said McCormick.
McCormick says one perk to this warm weather in December is he hasn't had to close up shop due to extreme cold or snow. So in a way it's a wash.
