The photo sharing website allows users to collect images and organize them into collections based on attributes chosen by the user. While art, film, fashion and sports are popular themes for social users, educators have begun using the image sharing service as an innovative, educational tool.

Colleges are also finding creative ways to use this visual social media channel outside of the classroom. The University of Mississippi, for example, highlights dorm room makeovers and Southern cooking tips and recipes on their boards, while Drake University has a board called “Adorbs Bulldogs,” dedicated to the school’s mascot.
“College administrators can use Pinterest to showcase campus events, student life and academics at their school,” shared Phang. “It’s a great way to reach out to prospective and current students, as well as alumni.”
