It was 71 years ago, on December 7th, 1941, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, marking the beginning of World War II. For almost 20 years now, men from the American Legion Post #697 stand outside the Morningside Library in Sioux City, and perform a ceremony to honor those men who lost their lives fighting for this country.

"It was a day that marked a lot of sacrifice. There was 3,000 men who died at Pearl Harbor. But many, many thousands more died," said George Harrison, member of American Legion Post #697.

"It's tough sometimes because I lost some people during World War II, and other times. So you remember," said Phil Severson, member of American Legion Post #697.

The men say they come to honor the men who lost their lives on December 7th, and the thousands of others who are still protecting this country today.
