The Sioux City School District has confirmed that a West Middle School student has been diagnosed with Pertussis, or whooping cough. The student is in 6th grade.
Parents of classmates will be getting an letter explaining the situation and detailing how to identify and protect kids from whooping cough.
Siouxland District Health has been assisting the school with information. The health center says this is a important reminder that kids need to stay current on their vaccines.
