YANKTON, S.D. (AP) _ The school superintendent in Yankton is resigning in June, but he says the decision has nothing to do with his October drunken driving arrest.

Joseph Gertsema tells the Yankton Press & Dakotan (http://bit.ly/YKWdsE) that he's leaving because he feels it's time for a new challenge.

Gertsema has been Yankton's school superintendent for 23 years and says few stay in the same district that long.

Gertsema was arrested in October at a Highway Patrol checkpoint near Vermillion after police said he failed a sobriety test. He later apologized to his family and the community for his ``bad decision'' to drive after drinking.
