It's usually not a good thing when a cop is following you around in a store, but it certainly wasn't a bad thing on Saturday. It was the annual "Shop with a Cop" program in Sioux City. For the 8th year in a row, Walmart has teamed up with local law enforcement to give back to underprivileged kids in the community. This year, ten kids got the chance to stroll the aisles with an officer, And spend up to $100 on their family members for Christmas.
"I have a book for my brother and something of Spiderman, like a glove or something. A LaLa Loopsy for my sister. A microphone. And a back pack of one direction for me," said Zaret Sanchez.
Local Law Enforcement says the program is a great way to give back to the community, and it gives them an opportunity to establish a good relationship with the youth.
"It's a unique way for our officers to team up with some of the kids in the community and let them know that we're out here and we're working for them, and we're their friend. We want to build that relationship with the kids."
Volunteers were on hand to help wrap all the presents, and thanks to the Annual Variety, Kid's Charity Telethon, sponsored by Channel 9, each child got to take home a brand new bike for themselves, as well.
