Beauty pageants.
They are a national craze that have some young girls in the Midwest mesmerized.
"I saw them on TV and saw how fun they were. I told my mom I want to do that," said Kaysha Anson of Omaha.
And now, they are happening right here in Sioux City.
On Sunday, the Little Miss Imagination Pageants out of Omaha held its first Sioux City pageant at the Hilton Garden Inn.
About ten girls from ages two to fifteen competed for the pageants "Ultimate Grand Supreme" title.
Over the last few years, the beauty pageant craze has spread all over the country, thanks to show's like TLC's "Toddlers and Tiaras", a show that follows young children competing in beauty pageants throughout the South.
Just like the show, many of the pageant moms on Saturday "really got into it", standing front and center, showing support for their girls and even for others, showing a little bit of that Midwestern goodwill.
"You always hear us hollering for other people kids," said pageant mom, Tera Carpar of Council Bluffs. "There is no real competition. You can say we're all supportive of one another. If one beats another we just chalk it up to it wasn't your day for some reason."
None of the girls in the pageant went home empty handed.
All participants walked away with a "Princess Crown", making it known that winning is not always everything.
