A former Beef Products Incorporated employee has filed his own lawsuit against the American Broadcasting Company. Bruce Smith said he's suing for the damages he incurred after controversy broke over BPI's product lean, finely textured beef. Smith was a former environmental health services director with BPI, before he was laid off in May. In his lawsuit, smith is suing the American Broadcasting Companies and nine additional parties.

"I'm in it because of the truth. Or what was lacking in this particular instance... I think it's only right that the people primarily responsible for this wrong be held accountable."

Smith is suing for $70,000 dollars in damages. Plus the cost of court fees. He is also released a new book called "Pink Slime Ate My Job." Smith says some proceeds from book sales will go help his fellow former employees who lost their jobs. Channel 9 reached out to both BPI and the American Broadcasting Company. Neither were willing to comment.
