Rome, Ga. - The Morningside Mustangs fell in overtime to Marian University in a championship shootout, 30-27.
The Mustangs seemingly had the game in hand when pulled ahead by three with a little more than a minute to go in the 4th quarter. But the Marian Knights persevered sending in the game tying field goal to send it to over time.
The Mustangs took the first possession of overtime only to come up short.
Marian kicker Michael Josifovski kicked in the game winning field goal from 26 yards out to clinch Marian's National Championship.
Joel Nixon was 22 of 39 for 228 yards with two touchdowns. Fred Jones ran for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Nixon also threw two interceptions and lost a fumble.
