27-year-old Justin Charles Wehde of Garretson, SD died from injuries he received when the armored van he was a passenger in rolled on I29 Tuesday morning.  Wehde is the third person to die from a string of separate accidents on I29 Tuesday.

Wehde was a passenger in the armored van that was driven northbound on I29  by 33-year-old Andrea Martin Jacboson.  The accident happened just north of the Vermillion, SD exit.

Jacobson lost control of the van due to icy conditions on the road.  The van entered the median, rolled across the southbound lanes and ended up in the west ditch.  Jacobson, who was wearing her seatbelt, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

26-year-old Matthew Charles Thompson was also injured in the crash.  Thompson, who was riding in the vault of the armored van, was thrown van as it rolled across the interstate.

Both Thompson and Jacobson were treated at a Vermillion, SD hospital. Wehde was taken to a Sioux City hospital where he later died from his injuries.

It was a dangerous morning in Union County, South Dakota.

On Tuesday morning authorities received multiple calls of traffic accidents along Interstate 29, two of them were fatal.

Union County Sheriff Dan Limoges said the freezing drizzle was a key factor in the fatal accidents.

"The roadways have not been bad, but it's when you get your first blast of ice, it's a bit of a shock for people to adjust," said Limoges.

The first fatal accident happened around 7 a.m. near mile marker 15 outside of Elk Point.

The South Dakota State Patrol said Angela Snoozy, 27 of Emery, South Dakota lost control of her vehicle on the slick road.

Snoozy's car went from the northbound lane into the southbound and slammed into a garbage truck driven by Loren Fischer, 49 of Vermillion, South Dakota.

Snoozy was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. Fischer was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured.

The second fatal accident happened about 40 minutes later near mile marker 35 closer to Volin, South Dakota.

The South Dakota State Patrol said Tonya Anderson of Akron, Iowa was driving north when her vehicle lost control in the slippery conditions.

It went into the median and rolled.

Anderson was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle and died.

Following Tuesday's accidents, Sheriff Limoges wants to remind everyone to be cautious in winter driving conditions and to always wear your seatbelt.
