The latest first snow ever on record goes all the way back to Christmas Day over 70 years ago. We've technically already seen a little snow this year but nothing we really had to shovel, but that could soon change.

On Wednesday, inches of flurries are expected to drop in Siouxland and folks in Sioux City are making their annual trip to stock up.

"Have to get some kind of poly-pusher for snow. It's a little late in the season but the snow is coming so we got to be ready," said Kyle Bahney of South Sioux City.

And he's not the only one. Folks are picking up all their winter goodies, snow blowers, ice melt and shovels.

Joe Boyle, Manager at Bomgaars said, "Typically, November is kind of when we start selling the snow shovels and stuff. It's always the first snow though, there's always a huge rush. And then the next 2 days are really busy for us."

Two wheel drive pick-up truck drivers have been purchasing 70 lb. sand tubes to anchor their trucks on slick roads.

So far this season, Sioux City's seen just .6 of an inch of snow and that's following serious drought conditions in summer and fall.

"Kind of brown, kind of lame. So we're excited for the cold," said Kimberly Pickens.

So, are other people ready for some precip?

Becky Bottjen of Kingsley, IA said, "It makes it more difficult. A lot of times I have to go out of my way to get to Sioux City, like through Moville instead of across country roads."

"The longer we have to wait to push snow is fine with me," said Bahney.

"For air purposes, it helps clean the air and it's good for the land, call me a hippie, I guess," said Dawson Bigeagle.

Stay safe out there, Siouxland.
