It was a race against time, Wednesday, for Lori Minert of Pender, Nebraska, with her father's 80th birthday quickly approaching.
You see, being in charge of the cake is no easy feat when it's 50 miles away and a snowstorm is forecasted.
Lori says, "And so we decided we'd come and see if we can't get the cake a little bit earlier."
Getting to Sioux City was imperative, Lori says, because after all, what's a birthday without cake?
Folks at the Sugar Shack Bakery came to the rescue for Lori and made her father's cake early. They've been doing the same for dozens of other customers, because after all, what's Christmas without a little sugar?
Claudia Hessa, the owner of Sugar Shack Bakery, says, "We're working 24/7 as it is in December so it just makes it a little bit tougher."
Fully staffed and working 12 hour shifts, employees here, certainly have the threat of mother nature to thank, but hey, it's the reason for the season, they say. A season all are hoping is as sweet as sugar.
