SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ A sheriff in southeastern South Dakota says a man who led authorities on a three-county chase before holing up in his grandmother's home is now in custody.

Turner County Sheriff Byron Nogelmeier tells the Argus Leader that the 32-year-old suspect was arrested Monday night at the Marion home. The newspaper reports that SWAT officers shot pepper spray into the home before capturing him.

The man had told officers he was armed, but it wasn't immediately clear if a weapon was found.

Authorities say the suspect's mother called them Monday morning, saying he was hiding out in his grandmother's house. Deputies had lost track of the man during a pursuit that started Sunday night.

Turner County Sheriff Byron Nogelmeier tells the Argus Leader that the 15-year-old was released about 4:30 p.m. and officers are trying to end the situation safely. The suspect is being treated as a barricaded subject.

Multiple law-enforcement agencies have been gathered outside the home in Marion for more than eight hours. The man has been described as a 32-year-old parole absconder who tells police he's armed.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ Turner County Sheriff Byron Nogelmeier says a man who led law enforcement on a high-speed, three-county chase is now holed up in his grandmother's Marion home and is holding a teenage relative hostage.

Nogelmeier tells KSFY-TV that officers are trying to calm the suspect but negotiations aren't going well.

Police tried to pull the man over about 8 p.m. Sunday in Sioux Falls on suspicion he absconded parole.

Instead of stopping, the man floored it. Authorities backed off the pursuit because the man's erratic driving put others at risk.

Officials say the suspect is considered dangerous. A SWAT vehicle arrived at the home just north of city hall and next to a park.

Marion, a town with fewer than 100 residents, is an hour southwest of Sioux Falls.
