650 Hogs Killed In Fire Near Rock Valley

On Saturday, December 22, at 9:49 p.m., the Sioux County Communications Center received a report of a hog confinement on fire at 2730 340th Street, four miles southeast of Rock Valley, IA.

The Rock Valley Fire Department responded to the fire. Upon arrival, the confinement was found to be fully engulfed in fire.

After the fire was extinguished it was determined that 650 30 pound feeder pigs were lost due to the fire; total damages are estimated at $150,000.

No injuries were reported.

The Rock Valley Fire Department was assisted by the Rock Valley Ambulance, Hull Fire Department, Sioux Center Fire Department and the Sioux County Sheriff's Office.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
