SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ A Sioux Falls lawmaker says he will likely ask the South Dakota Legislature to pass a measure that would mean drivers who repeatedly speed could lose their licenses.

South Dakota drivers now can lose their licenses if they accumulate too many points for moving violations that include drunken driving, reckless driving, eluding police or running a stop sign or red light. But no points are assessed for speeding.

Rep. Steve Hickey of Sioux Falls tells the Argus Leader (http://argusne.ws/12COD2r ) he is likely to introduce a bill that would give drivers between one and three points for each speeding offense. It takes 15 points in 12 months or 22 points in 24 months before a license is suspended.

A similar bill was rejected by the South Dakota House last year.
