Scoring the first touchdown, the Iowa State University Cyclones started off the Liberty Bowl with a bang in Memphis, Tennessee, sending shockwaves all the way to Sioux City, Iowa at Bob Roe's Point After. Because if not surrounded by fans in the stands, well, it might be the next best place to be.
Season ticketholder, Neil Stockfleth, of Sergeant Bluff, says, "We've come here for many years for a variety of reasons, but this is a friendly atmosphere, very similar to the atmosphere you'd find at a tailgate in Ames."
Neil and his wife have made it to several games this year, but they weren't always such die-hards. After their daughter decided to go school in Ames, they really had no choice, they say.
It's given them a lot of pride and OK, maybe even a little envy at times. "She's been sending us pictures from the game," Neil adds, but they wouldn't change a thing about the team they've grown to love.
The final score of the Tulsa-ISU Liberty Bowl Game was 31-17, Tulsa.
