The City of Norfolk started off the new year with a blaze.
Fire crews were called to a house fire around 10 last night. When firefighters arrived, they found a fire between the ceiling and a wall in the kitchen area of the home. It took crews roughly 30 minutes to get the fire under control.
The residents of the home were inside at the time of the fire, and all got out safely.
The cause of the fire appears to be electrical, but is still being investigated. One firefighter was injured when he slipped on ice, but didn't require any medical attention.
The fire caused an estimated fifty thousand dollars in damage.
